This is a well made, solid tilt plate. We purchased it for our Canon R5 C, but it is equally capable handling our Canon C300 complete with cage, matte box, and monitor. The two tightening levers on either side are smooth anodized aluminum, not plastic, so there is no fear of an over-zealous camera operator or assistant breaking them by accidentally applying too much torque. They are very comfortable to use and are re-positionable, meaning that if necessary, once they’re tightened, you can pull them straight out from the plate, and rotate them to a more convenient position. They are spring loaded so once you release them, they will return to the orientation you’ve chosen.
The levers also extend from the plate by half an inch on each side, making it very easy and convenient to access them, especially if you have other knobs to deal with from a rod kit, follow-focus, or even cables running alongside your rig. Once a camera has been rigged out, there are always plenty of things to get in the way, so I really appreciate the attention to this one little detail that will make the plate that much easier to use during production. This plate is the perfect addition to our Proaim Geared Head and the four inch slot running down the center of the plate makes balancing the camera quick and easy. I’m not crazy about the 3/8-16 tightening screw that comes with the plate- it seems to be chrome plate brass, which is a little too soft for my taste, but I have plenty of those lying around, so it’s really not a problem.
The twin support struts that hold the plate in position at whatever angle you choose are anodized red aluminum, and provide a sharp looking professional accent to the plate which I find quite attractive. If we ever need another support plate, I’m sure we will purchase it from Proaim.
